Saturday Morning My husband and I have spent the last 12 months getting to this day. I have spent the last week making up dummy chains, both plain and personalised. I have printed order forms, stickers, posters etc. Today I feel so nervous and excited. I have no idea how my products are going to be received by customers.
Let me take you back to how Wiggly Worm gifts started.
I lived in Germany when I was 16. I spent a year on school exchange. I have since stayed in very close contact with my exchange family in Germany. My husband and I spent the first 7 years of our marriage working and then travelling back to Europe. So, we have been to Germany often. We love the country and its people. Anyway, when my first girl was born I got my German sister to send me over a dummy chain. (Just to explain, in Germany, every baby that is born will be given a dummy chain with their name on it from somebody in the family or group of friends..... it is pretty much a tradition). Anyway, since then I have brought back 7 or 8 personalised dummy chains over the years. Finally one day, my husband said that it seemed to be proving a popular idea amongst our friends, so he suggested I start a business selling them. After some thought and lots of research...... Here we are.
I chose Mullumbimby show because my mum and Dad live in Mullumbimby (and my hubby and I grew up there as well). Today we set up our stall with my Dads help. My husband's parents are here looking after our girls. Mullumbimby show is a typical country show, where you run into lots of locals. Everyone seems to know each other. It has this wonderful feel of community. It is a lovely warm sunny day today. My girls are having a wonderful time watching the horses in the ring and looking at all the other animals. Nanny and Poppy have spoilt our girls with bubble guns and lots of sugary show food like fairy floss. I suppose it doesn't matter for one day. I can see that we are going to have two very tired and as a result, potentially grumpy kids by the afternoon, but we are having a fun day.
Overall the day was a great success for Wiggly Worm Gifts. I have sold more than expected. I didn't just sell dummy chains, but also sold a lot of bracelets and some other bits and pieces. I love my products, but it's always hard to know how it will be received. Customers love the quality, the personalisation and the uniqueness of the products, all comments were very positive.

Sunday Evening We had a great weekend. I am exhausted and I can't wait to curl up in bed. I learn a lot this weekend about how to present my products. I now feel like I am the right track and haven't wasted all of my time and effort in setting this business up. For me, the most important thing is still that we had a great family weekend with both sets of our parents and the kids had a great time.
